River Otter Ornament Video

I recently finished making a cute little river otter Christmas ornament for a customer who requested one. When I sat down to sculpt it I decided why not make a timelapse video. Okay, it was also an excuse to use the new HD webcam I got. I hope you enjoy it and if you want to request a custom ornament or jewelry please contact me. If you want it in time for Christmas I need to have the request by November 15th.

Painting a Blue Ringed Octopus

Continuing my series of behind the scenes videos showing the work that goes into my jewelry. This video shows the process of bringing a Blue Ringed Octopus necklace to life. The sculpting while the most important part of the process is bland and lifeless until the eyes are painted, they bring the personality of the pendant out.

Note: I've made a minor change to the Etsy shop, I now only accept paypal in the shop. Offering "Other" as an option for people who prefer Google Checkout caused more confusion and problems than it solved. If you want to pay with Google Checkout you need to contact me in advance.

Busy, busy, busy

I've been busily creating jewelry and stuff for the shop the last week. I received about 14 lbs worth of polymer clay so I'm now well stocked up for at least the next 6 months.

Look at all these unopened
packages of clay!
Along with restocking my supply of all the colors I regularly use I also picked up a few new colors to play with. One of these is Premo Candy Pink which is a really bright almost neon pink. I mixed it with some other colors to tone it down a bit but it's still really vibrant, I'm not sure what this new color will be called yet. It will also replace the pink I use for pieces like the Octopus Love necklace after the current stock sells out.

I've also shot a quick little behind the scenes video showing the cores I use inside my jewelry and explaining why they are so important to my designs.

Frankenpods Video

Been having fun with the Frankenpod jewelry. I created a fun mock-movie trailer with suitable B-movie inspired titles and a poster to go with it.

I love being able to play with my designs like this, it helps me break out of my usual routine and think about my jewelry in new ways. In this case I took an obvious theme for my Frankenpods and ran with it.

New Sculpture Project Process

So I'm going to be making some new steampunk cephalopod sculptures. I like the commissioned project so much that I want to take it a step further not that I don't have a budget constraint on creating them. I also though it would be cool to document on video some of my creative process so I've going to be doing a little video series while I create them.

Part 1: I describe the project and show the previous sculptures along with some gears and stuff.

Part 1.5: An unplanned video but I got some great supplies that I can't wait to use for this project.

The Amazing Perma-Pets Video

Still having fun with making videos of my work. The latest one is of my Perma-Pets. I decided to really have fun with this one and make it look like an old silent film. I even found some very cool old calliope music from the early 20th century with static and pops that went well with the video.

Zombie Fun

Several years ago I worked on this crazy, fun, ultra-low budget zombie movie. Well after many delays it is finally being posted online in several parts. So here is Color of Cannibals - Episode 1. I'll be posting the other parts as they go up.

Color of Cannibals - Episode 1 from Collective Subconscious Producti on Vimeo.

Also, just a reminder that I'll be running a 1/2 off shipping special for Labor Day weekend at Noadi's Art on Etsy, September  4-7.

Little Fun with my Steampunk Cephalopods

So I just got done making, photographing, and listing a bunch of new steampunk cephalopods jewelry in my Etsy Shop. Along with the distressed gray metal look I had been doing I created a more fanciful and feminine steampunk look in a deep burgundy red with antique gold edging that makes it look gilded. I'm very happy wiht how these turned out and how popular my steampunk cephalopods have been recently.

I decided I wanted to do a slideshow of them and this is what I created using animoto.

Trilobite Video

Hey, look at that two posts in one day. I'm bored out of my mind because I'm sick with the flu and when I'm sick I can't concentrate (or stay awake) long enough to work with clay. So instead I played with slide show software today and put together a little video of my trilobite jewelry.

Sculpting the Aging Process with Philippe Faraut

I'm a huge fan of Philippe Faraut's sculpture and anytime he puts a new video up on YouTube (which is sadly not often enough) I get really excited. This video is an amazing progression aging a teenage face into that of an old man.

Action Figure Construction with Mike Leavitt

Mike Leavitt creates very quirky, sometimes a bit twisted, one off action figures. On his website he demonstrates the process he uses to create his sculptures. It's extremely interesting and I learned a bit about articulating figures which is something I've never tried, definitely worth checking out.

He also has a bunch of great demo videos up on his YouTube Channel

I should point out that he uses styrofoam for some of the internal structures, please do not try this most styrofoams release harmful chemicals when heated and may even catch fire in the oven (not all, I'm assuming he uses a safe variety but just to be safe avoid the stuff). Use a non-hazardous material like aluminum foil, dried paperclay, or oven safe self-hardening materials like magicsculpt and aves apoxie.

Video Walkthrough: Lionfish Mermaid

I just completed last night narrating a slideshow video of my Lionfish Mermaid. This video is much like my previous one Odin's Runesong - The Creation, in that it's me commenting and describing the construction of the mermaid. I think I probably get more out of making these videos than you do watching them, it gives me a way to look back and analyze what I did.

Sculptural Progression from 1996 through 2007

This is a slide show video I put together of my sculptures, I've only been sculpting seriously for about 3 years so most of the videos are from the last few years though I do have a few that are older including a ceramic bird whistle I made way back in the 7th grade. It's a lot of fun for me to look back over the progress I've made in my sculpting ability, it really helps keep me motivated.

Geisha Fairy Video

I hope everyone likes the new layout of the blog. I think this one is much prettier and cleaner than the old scribe template I was using.

This is a little slideshow video I put together of photos I took of the Geisha Fairy sculpture I did last year. She was a commissioned sculpture that I did for Tenshi and was lots of fun.
